Transient Voltage Suppressor Features
uPI offers an extensive portfolio of Transient Voltage Suppressors (TVS) with unique features to help protect sensitive circuitry.
TVS features
- SnapBack – Proprietary cell clamping technology protects sensitive circuitry during transient over-voltage events on power or control data signals.
- Low-capacitance maintains signal integrity during over-voltage events.
- Application-specific package designs – USB Type-C, HDMI, DisplayPort™, etc.
ESD Event
Electrostatic discharge (ESD) is the sudden flow of electricity between two electrically charged objects caused by contact, an electrical short, or dielectric breakdown. ESD can cause permanent damage to all solid-state electronics components such as integrated circuits.
System vs. Component ESD Differences
System ESD testing follows the IEC 61000-4-2 specification which defines the standard finished system level ESD requirements. Component ESD follows MIL-STD-883F method 3015.7 to analyze and IC chip against Human Body Model(HBM)and Machine Model(MM)for robustness to ESD events. System level ESD and HBM test methods have a different purpose.

System Level ESD vs. Component Level ESD Different

8kV HBM with a peak current of 5.33A, but 8kV IEC 61000-4-2with a peak current of 30A
